Mark,

Here's the latest secret information I have on the TCM:

  1. Yes, you can re-flash a TCM back to 'K' from 'M'. The max. number of times you can re-flash a TCM is 10. You should not flash anything  that was not an originally a 'K' level or higher...keep in mind that 'K' was developed to stop the 1-2 shift shock, and now seems to have a flaw causing the 2-3 shock. The 'M' level was supposed to fix shift shock in all ranges. And, we know that doesn't work either. Our new department 04 MPV has a pretty good 2-3 shift jolt.

  1. If the Technician removed a TCM from the vehicle without disconnecting the battery terminal, the adaptive strategy portion of the TCM will NOT be erased when the TCM is re-flashed. The adaptive strategy is wiped out when the battery terminal is disconnected and then  re-flashed (according to Jatco Japan...). I am having a hard time believing this, what do you think?

Because of item #2, that may explain why some of the TCMs I have re-flashed worked, and some don't, I think. In all my years of working on the A/T, I have never seen a company with the experience of Jatco, not be able to figure out what is going wrong causing the shift shock. They are now realizing that the shock is really a flare (1-2 or 2-3) and only a limited number of things can cause a flare. Are they that stupid?

This issue is going to pound us on the IQS scores for the MPV and no one seems to really care until the scores are published.

Mike

Can these units be backdated?

In other words if it has the M level in it, can we put the K back in it?

Thanks,

Mark

BTW, The spell by name "feature" does not work for you from the McGaw facility.

Mark, here are all the flash files I have. Now that I have Windows XP software, I can no longer get my flash cube to work, so it looks like I'm out of business flashing anything...

Mike,

Can you send me a copy of each of the transmission flash files (I only have the K level).

Thanks,

Mark
