This file is to document the major tasked performed at 7711 Hornood. 2/27/2004 Closing (Friday) 2/28/2004 Change all the locks and survey the changes that need to be made. Doors: 1 Garage, 1 Breezeway, 3 Back, and 1 Front (6 Dead bolts, 5 Door Handle). Originally there were 11 DIFFERENT keys and at least 3 brands of locks. After buying new locks and having them re-keyed all the same, the thru bolts for the dead bolts were not correct (back to Home Depot). Locks are Schlage, just had the wrong harware in ALL of the entire inventory. 2/29/1004 Sunday (Leap Year). There was an old cabinet in the Kitchen that was over a previously removed counter top. It was at head bashing level. Removed and roughed in the sheetrock. Also purchased a new refridgerator. 3/3/2004 Picked up and delivered the fridge. Also purchased a new range. 3/4/2004 Picked up and delivered the new range. 3/6/2004 Measure once, tear out the walls! Kitchen pantry, Oven, Stove area all torn out floor to ceiling. 3rd bedroom closet to hall closet torn out. Repair the attic door for attic work in the morning. Finds of the day: Gas already in the wall for the Stove! 1976 Dime found under cabinet under old stove. The only run of Aluminum wire that was thought to have been used for the Air Conditioning was found to be in use by the old Stove. Since the Oven was fed with copper and the new range has a Gas stove and an Electric oven much less infrastructure to fix! 3/7/2004 Clean up the mess from the day before. Perform the final measurement and move the electrical and gas lines for rebuild. Found a HUGE stack of Bricks in the attic from when the chimney was built. Final count not in on the number of brand new (circa 1968) red brick that were placed there during construction. Gas line was lowered 19 inches. Electical boxes and some of the wiring was moved. For those used to working on new homes, I had forgotten how hard old growth pine is! (Especially 35 year old pine) 3/13-21 Killed two weekends that I should have been doing construction and instead went skiing. (Great trip!) But I did bring my trailer back from Colorado so I have something to haul the supplies with!. 3/21/2004 Load the trailer with a section of fence (rotten) and old bricks from a section of the house in front that had previously been torn down. 3/24/2004 Haul the load of fence and bricks to the dump ($24.00). 3/25/2005 Purchase a hammer drill and table saw to help in the construction. 3/27/2004 back to construction! Finished the wiring re-routing in the kitchen and repair some ceiling joists and headers that were not done properly even by 1968 building standards! Cut and remove the floor tiles in the old small closet and the cut tiles from the old pantry in the kitchen. Discovered after removing the tiles in the kitchen that the floor was originally "Terrazo(sp?)" and had cracked in at least one place in the kitchen and a vinyl floor of some type had been put down (contact cement). That was removed prior to the tile being put down. Don't cut tile dry if you are living in the house! (DUST!) 3/28/2004 finish the tear out of the closet in Monica's room. Frame the new closet area. Rough out the sheetrock. One project finished (rough out). Sheetrock the wall behind the new range. Now the cabinets can be finished before the rough out of the pantry! 4/4/04 Didn't get much done this weekend. I was in Irvine all week and flew back Sunday Morning. Went to the house late in the afternoon and did some minor tasks that needed to be finished. Most of the dead bolts did not have proper depth relief on the door jam side. Also the plates were not the proper reinforced plate with strong/long screws. All are now done! 4/9/04 Today with the Help of Talbert and Joe Sr. we got the following tasks done: The cabinet next to the range Talbert finished out, including hanging the door. Talbert then started working on the framing of the pantry. I started early with covering the tile in the living room and then starting to demolish the stone on the fireplace. At the end of the day all the stone was off the fireplace and the wall next to the kitchen. The hearth still had some stone left. Find of the day: packed behind the stone were newspapers from 1972. The house was built in 1968 and the Terraza floor was put in after the stone. Terraza flooring is in all of the living room as well as the kitchen....I wonder how far it goes??? Joe Jr. arrived this evening to help work tomorrow. 4/10/04 Busy day today! Talbert, Joe Jr., and myself worked all day! Rob worked in the morning and brought over a lawn mower. (Talbert, Joe Sr, and Rob were scheduled to play golf in the afternoon, but only Rob went). The fireplace stone removal was finished! While the pictures don't do it justice, it looks better in the rough now than with the stone!!! The master bath/closet tearout was nearly completed by Joe Jr. and Talbert. It is amazing what you learn when you do the tearout of what has been done in the past! Turns out the shower WAS almost built properly and did have a shower pan....BUT, the rubber shower pan joints were not glued (DUH) and when they put up the concrete backer board for the tile they screwed through the shower pan (DOUBLE DOH!). Originally there was NOT a tub in the master bath, but rather a 36" square shower. The original water valves were in the South wall. They were moved to the West wall. NOTE: The BIG problem with them being in the West wall is that there is NO access to the plumbing in that wall since it is an outside Brick wall!!! The wall between the master bath and master bedroom is a load bearing wall. (Two FULL trailer loads of rock were removed from the fireplace, I would guess it was over 7k pounds by the way the trailer pulled and was loaded!) Brian was present all day and he cut the grass for the first time. 4/11/04 After Easter Brunch and family departure Joe Sr. and myself went to the house and did some more cleanup in the master bath (since we had a full trailer on the 10th). I did a lot of finish work for insulating the attic around the chimney and kitchen fir down above the range. This was not done properly before and will be much easier in the future to do any service work. 4/17-18/04 Writing this a little late but here it goes from memory. Did the last of the tearout in the master bath and master bedroom. More finish tear out of the chimney facade from the stone work. Layed out and cut the tile in the living room so the new fireplace facade can be layed out. All the tile for the master bath area, kitchen, fireplace was cut (fine dust everywhere!). 4/24-25/2004 LOTS of work done in the master bath area. Moved the toilet vent pipe. Replaced the sink tye in piece. This had been lead pipe from the foundation cast iron pipe to the steel vent pipe. It was in bad shape and PVC is the only way to go! All of the framing for the wall between the bath/closet area and the bedroom is completed. Most of the framing (all that can be done) on the wall between the master bath and closet is done. Header and footer is done, closet door framing is done. The shower location was figured out after moving the shower into place. Now the shower is back in the closet with concrete tear out needing to be done! 4/30/2004 (fri night) Got the parts for the riding mower (battery) and oil. Installed the battery, put gas in it and turned the key. Started right up! Amazing how if you do it right (drain the gas and change the oil before putting something away how well it works when you go to re-start it...It hadn't been started in at LEAST 7 years. Supposed to storm on Saturday so I cut the grass. Also bought a new weed eater and started weed eating. BIG chore as it hasn't been done in a long time. Started to figure out and make cuts for the fireplace hearth. I have most of it figured out in my head and need to get started! 5/1/2004 Rain..... That means cool attic and there is electrical that needs to be done! I have decided to put an electrical sub panel in the hall closet. This is centrally located and will ease the building of the garage and should stop the lights from dimming when you turn anything on. I can re-wire all the bedrooms and baths to this point. Ran two runs of 1/0 wire and a dedicated ground all the way to the main panel. All the fireplace hearth was framed out. All the tie in for the cieling and wall studs for the fireplace are done. The barstool area was framed out. The two "side" walls of the fireplace facade were framed. All that lacks (besides finishing:) ) on the fireplace is the frame out of the opening and the concrete pour. Worked from 8am till 1:30am. With help in the morning from Big Joe and the evening from Suzanna. 5/2/2004 Not much done today. Ran the third leg for the electrical sub panel. Also wired a 220 outlet in the garage for the compressor (disconnected the old range 220 aluminum wire). Did some clean up. Lots of running around getting supplies and recovering from yesterdays big push! Projects left at this point to finish before move in: wire fireplace facade install sub-panel (electrical) Pour concrete fireplace hearth Pour concrete fireplace surround Frame fireplace surround pantry electrical rough in Sheetrock pantry install pantry door Tear out foundation below master shower shower plumbing rough in repair foundation under shower install shower electrical rough in for bathroom sheetrock bathroom dryer gas line valve replacement gas grill gas line install
